During the 1978-79 school year, while Fr. Steinhausen was pastor, there were two significant changes to our school. In the fall, the name was changed from Sacred Heart Academy to St. Columbkille Catholic School. The intent was to show that the school was a significant part of our parish and not just a private school next door. At the time it began to often be called the “parish school.” In the spring, it was announced that the following year the school would be supported as a ministry of the parish and tuition would no longer be charged. At the same time, there was a very strong appeal to school parents (as well as everyone else) to ensure they were contributing to the parish.
The largest expense for any school is staff. As the first lay principal was hired in 1980 and as the Benedictine Sisters left our school, one of the ways the school kept going was to add a fee to help pay for books and later for technology. Over time that fee has grown.
In 2009 the pay for teachers was changed to 85% of the previous year’s pay scale for the Papillion-La Vista school district. This not only meant automatic increases for our teachers over time, it also meant automatic pay increases as they reached certain years of service or enhanced their education. This has motivated many teachers to increase their education which in turn has continued to benefit our students.
Before the 2010-11 school year, the archdiocese insisted that we no longer call our charges “fees” but “tuition.” The technology fee and a graduation fee for eighth graders have since been wrapped into “tuition.”
Last year the tuition increase was $125.00. This year, following the formula of balancing tuition with tithing, we had to increase our tuition by $100 per student. Even with that increase, we will still have the lowest tuition in the entire metro area. The total for this year will be $1,675.00, and our teachers will still be at only 85% of what the public school pays. No one will be excluded from our school because of an inability to pay. If you are struggling to complete the tuition payments, please contact the school office.
The total 2016-2017 tuition for students in kindergarten through eighth grade will be $1,675.00. Families may choose one of 3 options to pay tuition.
Option 1: Full Tuition payable by August 15.
Option 2: Two equal payments payable August 15 and February 15.
Option 3: Ten equal payments using EFT (electronic fund transfer) from July through April.
Contact the school office for the 2016-2017 Authorization For Automatic Withdrawal (EFT) form. EFTs are processed on the 3rd Friday of the month.
